When it comes to a seaside holiday, Blackpool pretty much ticks all the boxes and has been a firm favourite among Brits for generations. It’s got everything you could want: huge beaches, rollercoasters, arcades and plenty of chippies.
If that wasn’t enough to put a smile on your face, a trip to Blackpool won’t break the bank, either.
You can catch a coach from Manchester to Blackpool for less than a fiver and there’s even a place where you can buy a £1 burger, which we tried here.
Now a new study has found that Blackpool is one of the cheapest staycation destinations in the UK, beaten only by Plymouth on the south coast.
Researchers from Aqua analysed various factors such as cost of accommodation, monthly Google searches, average rainfall and the average temperature in each location to compose the list.
Plymouth ranked first in the list with the cost of accommodation for a weekend coming in at £65 for two people. But Blackpool was just behind with weekend stays coming in at £69. Portsmouth came in third with stays from £73.
As well as affordable prices, Blackpool is truly a seaside resort with something for everyone.
Families seeking a traditional seaside experience can play games on the beach, have a paddle in the sea, go for a donkey ride and play at the slot machines on the pier.
Adrenaline-junkies and older kids can head to the iconic Blackpool Pleasure Beach and brave its jawdropping rollercoaters.
Older visitors might appreciate afternoon tea inside the Blackpool Tower Ballroom and enjoy a peaceful moment watching dancers swirl around the room.
Blackpool has an array of bars and pubs for revellers, including one a couple on the North Pier which offer incredible views out to see.
If that wasn’t enough, you can learn about the history of entertainment in the town at the Showtown Museum, hop on one of its vintage trams of venture up to the top of the tower.
