UK weather latest: Two temperature records could be broken today; firefighters battle wildfire | UK News

With temperatures set to reach 29C in the South East, many will describe today’s weather as a heatwave.

But that’s not exactly the case, as the Met Office explained, with three days in a row over a certain temperature threshold needed in order to classify a heatwave.

“We didn’t reach that on Tuesday, but many places did reach that yesterday,” meteorologist Alex Deakin told our presenter Wilfred Frost.

He explained that while it’s not technically a heatwave, temperatures are still “incredibly high” for the time of year.

“We’re not getting to those temperatures where we’re especially concerned but always when temperatures get into the high 20s there are issues with rehydration, and particularly at this time of year people aren’t aware of the strength of the sun,” he said.

“UV levels are going to be on the rise, they have been throughout April, that’s going to be a theme going into the summer.”
